Missing 15-day-old Georgia baby found dead in woods

Report: 15-day-old baby found dead in Newton County

The Newton County Sheriff's Office is investigating after the parents of a 15-day-old baby was found dead in a wooded area, according to The Covington News. Newton County authorities said the case has transitioned from a missing child incident to a homicide.

The baby's parents called police on Saturday morning when they noticed Caliyah was missing, according to WSB.

"I was only two weeks old", reads the poem, written in Caliyah's point of view.

The baby's body was found inside a duffel bag in those woods Sunday at around 3 p.m.

The last time the child had been seen, he said, was at about 5 a.m. when she was fed.

"Fifteen-day-old child obviously didn't leave by themselves", Keith Crum with the Newton County Sheriff's Office told WSB.

A search party has been organized and they're now canvassing a wooded area near the home for the baby.

Police went looking for McNabb Sunday evening, as according to Crum, McNabb was in his girlfriend's auto when he found out that his daughter's body had been found. The warning was issued that anyone who saw McNabb should contact authorities and not approach him, since he was wanted on a felony probation violation warrant out of Bartow County, Georgia.

The father eluded investigators by jumping out of a vehicle and ran.

The infant's mother was questioned by police and released.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has custody of the body and will determine the identity and the cause of death.
