McGregor's coach prefers Diaz trilogy fight to Ferguson title clash

"Dana, by going out there at the press conference and saying publicly that Ferguson has to fight Conor, that takes the momentum away from Diaz so that's gonna soften his stance on the 20 million". It's the trilogy, the first two fights, the back and forth between the guys and the way the fights went.

McGregor has stated he'd like to fight at the UFC's year-end show on December 30, but if that's to happen, the promotion will need to make arrangements fairly quickly.

"You know, he's tough as well". With the one year mark approaching since winning the UFC lightweight tile, it will be interesting to see how things play out as Ferguson makes the most sense as an opponent holding the interim title. His style is, you know, it's not traditional. He's tough and durable, so he may take a couple of smacks, but at the end of the day, Conor's going to be way too clean and too technical...

Dismissing Ferguson as the easier fight will certainly draw the ire of the interim champion but it will be up to the UFC to decide which of the two fighters McGregor faces next.

As we've reported in the past, Triple H has always been open to McGregor working with WWE, and I guess time will tell if the two sides can come to a deal this time around.

"The WWE guys have asked him to do shows before with them but the timing was never really right". It is insane but realistically, if that was boxing, for an event that size, a fight that big for the PPV numbers, I feel like the boxer would get that money or close to it.

"What (McGregor) needs to do is defend or vacate", Ferguson said recently on MMAjunkie Radio (transcribed by John Morgan for MMA Junkie).

Given his recent showings, it would be a fair assessment to suggest that Tony's best chance of overcoming Conor would be to bring the fight to the ground. So it will be an exciting fight. "I will probably defend my interim belt more times than that dude would ever defend that belt". But also in every reality, we want the fans to have the fight, and I think the fans deserve it, straight up, because he's the next one in line, and Khabib (Nurmagomedov) is not there. You know, when you just go from camp to camp there's very little learning in camp. It's when you're fighting, when you're training out of camp is when you improve, when you work on new techniques and you develop new areas of the game.

"But we'll see. There's conversations ongoing". In that 10 weeks he gained years' experience, and just working on the hands.
