Facebook users around the world are complaining of outages of the social network on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

A Facebook spokeswoman said: "We're aware that some people are now having trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram".

A total of 40% of those people were reporting a total blackout of the site, while 36% said they were having login issues.

Outage Report showed the most affected areas as San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City and Chicago, but reports were coming in from all around the U.S.

That said, users took to Twitter with the #FacebookDown to poke fun at the website's issues.

Facebook confirmed Wednesday that several of its users are having trouble accessing the social network and its sister network, Instagram.

The outage started around 8:20 a.m. ET, according to DownDetector.com, a site that monitors service disruptions.

Bad news, friends: Facebook appears to be down for a large number of users. "We're sorry for the inconvenience", a Facebook spokesperson told the Daily Dot.
