Anupam Kher is the new FTII Chairman; replaces controversial Gajendra Chauhan

Kher said Indian filmmakers were returning to the'simplicity of stars like Basu Chatterjee

It was surprising to see that despite the protests, the BJP government didn't sack Chauhan till March 2017.

Talking about his vast filmography, Anupam Kher had told HT, "In a span of 35 years, I have done 500 films". However, we are sure that he would do a commendable job and with his experience, commitment, dedication, and charisma the students of FTII will definitely be rewarded. First up was from his wife Kirron Kher: "Congratulations my dear Anupam Kher for becoming FTII Chairman!"

The 62-year-old also explained why the appointment is an extremely important achievement in his life.

Kher's predecessor Chauhan had a tumultuous stint as the FTII Chairman. Some of his prominent films include Saaransh, Daddy, Lamhe, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Maara, Khosla Ka Ghosla and A Wednesday.

Anupam also has his own acting institute Actor Prepares. "I will go with a clear mind and do as much work as I can".

In 2004, Kher had received Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan in 2016.

On the work front, Anupam Kher is now busy promoting his maiden production "Ranchi Diaries". Silently enough Kher has also created an global career of some repute and his filmography includes films with a Gurinder Chadda (Bend it Like Beckham [2002]), an Ang Lee (Lust, Caution [2007]) and a David O Russell (Silver Linings Playbook [2012]) besides producing Rituparno Ghosh's Bariwali (2000) and Jhanu Barua's Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara (2005).

Another FSA member also said there was no question on Khers credentials, but the way the actor had tried to advertise certain ideas of the government was a matter of concern.

Will his new responsibility as FTII Chairman affect his film work? He is very capable of (being FTII head). I was the Chairperson of National School of Drama as well. "You see, my grandfather used to say, "A busy man has time for everything".
