Airtel, Karbonn Mobiles tie up to offer 4G smartphones

It was back in August when Airtel announced its plans of joining hands with smartphone manufacturers to take on the JioPhone. It is part of Airtel's "Mera Pehla 4G smartphone" initiative where they will be tying up with other smartphone manufacturers as well. The all new cheap and affordable Airtel 4G smartphone is effectively priced at Rs. 1399 and manufactured by Karbonn Mobiles in India under the branding "Make in India".

The phone will be available on all leading retail stores across the country and after-sales service will be provided by Karbonn mobiles.

'Effective price' of the phone is Rs 1399. While the JioPhone runs a version of the KaiOS, which does not support popular apps like WhatsApp and Youtube for now, Airtel-backed A40 Indian comes with Android that will support all these applications. "The 4G smartphone is bundled with a monthly pack of Rs 169 from Airtel, which offers generous data and calling benefits", Airtel said. Raj Pudipeddi, director, Consumer Business & CMO, Bharti Airtel said.

In a public statement dated on October 11, Airtel said this is the first of a few associations that it intends to have with portable handset makers "to bring exceedingly moderate packaged 4G phone alternatives to the market and satisfy the digital requirements of a huge number of Indians".

The Google certified smartphone will be given to the customer at a down payment of Rs 2,899.

A client not deciding on the Rs. 169 packaged arrangement will have the adaptability of making a recharge plan over their smartphone with a coupon of any division and legitimacy according to every user need.

If you do not wish to opt for the Rs 169 bundled plan, you can get recharges of any value. Further, unlike Reliance JioPhone, "the ownership of the smartphone is completely with the customer and there is no need to return the device to Airtel/Karbonn at any point to claim the cash benefit".

Like Reliance Jio that has started delivery of its JioPhone last month, Airtel also promises cashback to its customers.

To get started, a person would have to pay Rs 2899 for the A40 Indian.

Talking about the Karbonn A40 aka Airtel A40 Specifications, the device is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad core processor coupled with 1 GB RAM on top of a 4-inch touchscreen display. To help the Indian consumers with local languages, the phone supports 22 languages. The phone will come bundled with Airtel apps like MyAirtel, Airtel TV, and Wynk Music.

Airtel also announced a special Rs 169 plan for the Karbonn A40 smartphone users.
