No. 1 QB Justin Fields commits to Georgia for 2018

Justin Fields

He was on hand for Georgia's big win over Mississippi State a couple of weeks ago, and he took a visit to Tuscaloosa last weekend. He had taken official visits to Alabama and LSU.

The one-time Penn State commit made trips to Georgia, Florida State, LSU, Florida, Auburn and Alabama after decommitting from the Nittany Lions on June 6.

That's what makes Fields' commitment to Georgia so interesting as the Bulldogs presently have two top-tier underclassmen quarterbacks on their roster.

Georgia is off to a 5-0 start and ranked No. 5 in the country thanks in large part to the efforts of true freshman quarterback Jake Fromm.

"I know I just committed and everything, but I'm already hitting guys up, telling them to come join me cause I want the best players to play with me", Fields explained. As recently as May that class was ranked in the fifties.

"His recruiting and just the players he gets to surround my position the quarterback, the players I get to play with are definitely appealing for that", he said.

Georgia is his home town school, and several of Fields's close friends have either committed to Georgia or appear to be leaning toward the Red and Black.

That Georgia was able to land Fields isn't a shock, as UGa had been considered the favorite for the past month or so. Fields has been on the camp and national competition circuit all summer and recruits from across the country know him and his game.

Fields, a quarterback, is from Georgia and becomes the first number one overall prospect to pick Georgia since Matthew Stafford, 13 years ago.
