Man fatally shot in officer-involved shooting after shooting New Castle officer

2 Officers Including 1 Woman Shot in New Haven Suspect Arrested

The man continued to approach the officer, who feared for his safety and fired one round at the suspect.

The video, posted on Facebook and YouTube, shows the man in a physical confrontation with a Huntington Beach police officer outside of a 7-Eleven Friday morning in the beach city. Police warned residents to take shelter inside their home until further notice. However, the man who apparently was not initially hit kept moving toward the officer. "After discharging his firearm, the officer determined the object in the male's hand was not a weapon", Moore said.

The responding officers were met by a man carrying a "dark object" that was not identifiable, but one of the officers believed it was a weapon, investigators said. When he didn't comply, the officer fired and then realized the man wasn't holding a gun.

According to a release from the Indiana State Police, the officer was treated for a non-life threatening injury, as it is believed the protective vest worn by the officer prevented a possibly fatal wound. The suspect continued to move toward the officer despite being ordered to stop.

Authorities say both officers are expected to be OK.

He also struck an assisting officer in the lower torso area.

Burke and the officer were taken to an area hospital, where Burke later died. The investigation remains ongoing, he added.
