Evo Evolved: Mitsubishi Teases e-Evolution SUV Concept For Tokyo

Mitsubishi e Evolution Concept teases an ELECTRIC 4WD SUV Coupe

The e-Evolution concept will feature a 4WD electric drivetrain with Artificial Intelligence technology.

Driving enthusiasts may yearn for the return of the classic Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, but as consumer tastes and environmental concerns fluctuate, such cars become harder to justify - not least from the point of view of meeting tough emissions regulations. Well the Japanese firm has been looking for a newer and better model. That seems promising. See you in a few weeks to find out more ...

After much speculation over the future of the Lancer Evolution, which phased out of production previous year, Mitsubishi has finally announced plans to revive it as an electrified SUV at this October's Tokyo Motor Show. In the new revealed image, the Evolution concept features an angular design motif and bold roof buttresses. But whereas that vehicle was an upright, boxy SUV with a 276 horsepower 3.5-liter V6, this will be a coupe-like, aerodynamic EV. This feature is created to aid the driver rather than take over from the driver.

The e-prefix of the concept model suggests that the SUV will be equipped with an electric powertrain.

Heads have rolled and development directions have changed since ailing Mitsubishi was taken over by the Renault Nissan alliance, and this is among the first results of those changes.

While the Japanese auto company tell us their home motor show will also will be an opportunity to usher in a new era of long term growth and sustainable development.

Mitsubishi has also confirmed the e-Evolution concept will sport an SUV coupe body shape, pretty much confirming previous reports that the replacement for the Lancer Evolution series would be an electrified SUV.
