Astros sweep Mariners, clinch AL West title

Houston Astros' Derek Fisher watches his two-run home run off Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Andrew Moore during the fifth inning of a baseball game Sunday Sept. 17 2017 in Houston

Houston is 5-5 over its last 10 games and enjoys a 14-game lead over Los Angeles in the A.L. West.

The Astros are a scintillating 12-5 against Seattle this season, and ace Dallas Keuchel will look to stymie the Mariners for the third time this season. For the first time since 2001, when they were still members of the National League Central, the Houston Astros have won a division championship. Derek Fisher and Marwin Gonzales in the 5th, and George Springer and Carlos Correa tacked on two more in the 7th, with Correa's his first homer since coming off the DL, leading them to a 7-1 victory over the Mariners.

The Astros join the surging Indians as the only two American League teams to punch their postseason ticket. "That will start at home on Tuesday". Paxton has been out since early August with a strained left pectoral muscle, but he had won seven consecutive decisions before going down.

Justin Verlander pitched seven strong innings and the Astros belted four home runs in a 7-1 win over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday that lifted Houston to the American League West division title. First home start and a win would have been great.

"I had a tear in my eye", Houston Astros owner Jim Crane said after watching the team clinch the division, something that hasn't been done in his ownership tenure. Josh Reddick finished 1-for- 2 with two walks and an RBI. He finally escaped the inning by retiring Tyler White.

"I know there is a lot of anticipation for his first home start", Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. "Just did a really nice job of contributing". Robinson Cano singled with one out in the fourth and Nelson Cruz walked, but Morton sat down the next two Mariners to end the threat. It will mark his second appearance against the Astros.

Brandon Woodruff struck out six and the Milwaukee Brewers' offense produced an eight-run inning for the second time in three games in its rout of Miami. RHP Lance McCullers, who was scratched from his scheduled start on Wednesday after experiencing arm fatigue during pregame throwing, will throw a bullpen on Saturday. "We didn't get that big hit with guys on". Erasmo Ramirez gets the ball, and he is 5-5 with a 4.25 ERA and 92 strikeouts this season. Gonzalez hammered a sinker on the inside half of the plate to deep center for a two-run homer and a 4-1 lead.

The loss leaves Seattle back at.500 (75-75).
