Texans' Brian Cushing suspended for violating performance enhancing substance policy

"Brian Cushing of the Houston Texans has been suspended without pay for the team's next 10 games for violating the National Football League policy on performance enhancing substances".

"In so doing, he is aware of the negative impact he has had on his team and most important his fans". He will be eligible to return to the active roster on November 28 after the team's game against the Baltimore Ravens on November 27.

"Brian Cushing of the Houston Texans has been suspended without pay for the team's next 10 games for violating the National Football League policy on performance enhancing substances", the official statement read. "It is with the deepest remorse that he humbly apologizes to his fans, teammates and coaches".

In Week 2, the Texans will have to recoup quickly as they're playing on a short week. He said in a statement at the time that he tested positive for a non-steroidal banned substance, but his appeal proved unsuccessful.

Texans rookie linebacker Zach Cunningham is starting in place of suspended veteran Brian Cushing at inside linebacker Thursday night against the Bengals. Cushing played a much heavier role in the pass rush earlier in his career, notching 9.5 sacks in his first three seasons. A third violation would result in at least a two-year suspension. He was named Defensive Rookie of the Year and made his only Pro Bowl. Cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones is back from a one-game suspension for his offseason misdemeanor conviction.
