Australia call up Peter Handscomb to replace injured Aaron Finch

India vs Australia 1st ODI Match Prediction

It has been reported that Finch had aggravated a calf-injury during the team's nets sessions in Chennai on Thursday.

India squad (first three ODIs): Virat Kohli (c), Rohit Sharma (vc), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami.

The 30-year-old first sustained the blow during his stint with Sussex and now a scan revealed that he might miss the initial few matches for Australia.

"Aaron re-aggravated his pre-existing calf injury during warm-up at training yesterday", Australian physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said in a statement. Australia have called in Peter Handscomb as a cover for injured Aaron Finch.

The first ODI takes place on Sunday in what will be a packed MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

There is anticipation that India will steamroll the Australians on the back of a 5-0 series win in Sri Lanka, as well as having the advantage of playing at home.

The two sides will also play three T20Is following the ODIs, and Kohli's record in that format against the Aussies is even more impressive: nine matches for 401 runs at 66.83, with four half-centuries.

It will be interesting to see whether Australia go in with Handscomb to partner David Warner at the top or persist with uncapped all-rounder Hilton Cartwright who opened the innings during the visitor's only warm-up game against the Board President's XI. He was however, dismissed for a second ball duck.
