Two insurgents killed one OGW arrested in South Kashmir

Acting on a tip off, a joint team of J&K Police, 1RR and 18 battalion of CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Khudwani and asked the militants to surrender.

During searches, the militants opened fire at the forces who retaliated, leading to a gunfight.

Two weapons were also recovered - one AK47 and one INSAS rifle.

The operation which started late last night was called off after the killings.

Two militants of Hizb ul Mujahideen outfit were killed in the encounter, tweeted DGP Sp Vaid.

The police official said that both Hizbul operatives were part of the Altaf Kachru group in Anantnag and Kulgam belt.

The martyred youth have been identified as Sayar Ahmad Wani and Dawood Illahi Khan, according to the Kashmir Media Service. One of them identified as Arif Ahmad Sofi surrendered before Police.

In another incident, three soldiers were injured on Sunday in a landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district.

All shops, business establishments, and educational institutions are closed while as public transport is off the roads, local sources said.
