Harrell said he will decide within five days whether to serve the rest of the term - which ends December 31 - or have the city council vote to install a different council member as acting mayor.

Dyer's allegations effectively ended his nearly two-decade-long career in the state legislation, in which Murray prides himself of having introduced a landmark gay civil rights bill, same-sex marriage legislation and a $15 minimum hourly wage.

"There would be times when I would fake sleeping because I didn't want him touching me, " Dyer said.

"As a parent, former public official and openly gay woman, these allegations are beyond sad and tragic; no official is above the law", Durkan said.

Danni Askini, with Seattle's Gender Justice League, echoed Moon's statements that sexual abuse victims should be believed.
