Girl made to stand in boys' toilet in Hyderabad school

11-year-old Hyderbad school student

Later, the police registered cases against Principal and the woman PTE teacher and served notices on them.

The incident occurred on Saturday in Rao's High School in Ramchandrapuram on the outskirts of Hyderabad but came to light on Monday after a video of the girl describing the sequence of the events went viral.

Child rights activist Achyuta Rao, to whom the father complained, says this is also a violation under Prevention of Sexual Offences Against Children (POCSO) law.

He added that the girl was "dragged" by the said person to a boys' toilet and made to stand there for a some time as punishment. She made me stand outside the boy's washroom. But her physical training (PT) teacher stopped her and did not let her go to the classroom. The girl kept on repeating the reason for coming to the school in coloured uniform and the same being mentioned in the school diary, but nobody paid heed to her explanations. Nearly every child has gone to school without the proper uniform and has been scolded for it.

Though the child tried to explain that her mother had washed the P-T uniform and also written the excuse in school diary, the teacher scolded the girl and made her stand in the boys' toilet. However, the teacher did not listen to me and continued to shout. "She threw me inside the boy's restroom".

Rubbishing the claims of the PE trainer, the girl's father, Ramakrishna said that her daughter was indeed closed off in the boy's washroom. Protesters entered inside the school and ransacked the furniture demanding action against the staff who meted out the alleged punishment. Newsminute reports that the traumatised girl has since refused to go to school. Just suspending a teacher will not suffice for a private school.

Minister for Information Technology K.T. Rama Rao responded to the incident on his Twitter handle and urged Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari to respond and act against those responsible. He said the issue would be taken up with the Education Minister for appropriate action against the school. Police filed cases against the principal and the PET under sections 342 (wrongful confinement), 324 (causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult) & 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

"However, she dragged my child and asked her to stay for a few minutes inside the boys washroom as a punishment for not wearing the uniform", the girls father said.
