Discovery SVX Packs Supercharged 525PS Punch

Land Rover have offered a production preview of their ultimate Land Rover Discovery.

"The Discovery SVX reinforces Land Rover's unrivalled reputation for building vehicles with true all-terrain capability for customers who desire the ultimate in off-road performance".

Also on show at Frankfurt is a new 2.0-litre petrol-engined version of the Discovery fitted with Jaguar Land Rover's fuel-efficient 300bhp four-cylinder Ingenium engine rated with emissions of 222g/km which equates to 29.5mpg.

The Discovery SVX has been created by (Land Rover's sister company) Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations department.

It will join the SVR and SVAutobiography lines, which built with emphasis on road performance and supreme luxury respectively, adding an extreme expression of all-terrain capability to the Special Vehicle Operations portfolio.

It features a huge 525hp 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol powertrain, and comes with a number of enhancements over the standard Discovery. It generates 625 Nm of torque with extensive suspension modifications and technological enhancements to ensure supreme off-road ability. The Discovery SVX also features a model-first Pistol Shifter in place of the Drive select rotary shifter to offer the driver optimum control of gear selection in off-road manoeuvres. A Hydraulic Active Roll Control (H-ARC) system is new to the SVX model and enhances off-road traction and allows for better body control all while minimizing body roll for on-road driving. With the improved ground clearance, Land Rover has installed 20-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 275/55R20 Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires, specifically for the SVX.

Visually, it receives new front and rear bumpers with orange accents and protective skid plates, an anti-glare bonnet finish and a dedicated electric winch system mounted to the back of the SUV. There's a new Tectonic Orange paint finish for the exterior, alongside a black grille and roof bars. With a more luxurious body and amped-up internals, the Land Rover Discovery is an extreme bit of kit.

Those looks, inspired by Land Rover's legendary forays in the Camel Trophy and G4 Challenge, are made to give the Discovery SVX a unique identity.

The Land Rover Discovery SVX will be hand-assembled at the SVO Technical Centre, with production starting in 2018.

The Discovery SVX is exclusively made available with Land Rover's flagship 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol motor - which pumps 518bhp of power and 625Nm of torque.

To that end the SVX is equipped with active centre diff as well as an electronic rear locking differential.

SVX's first project is based on the latest Discovery model.
