Bears place linebacker Jerrell Freeman on injured reserve

The Chicago Bears are no strangers to injuries. White was placed on the injured reserve list after breaking a bone in his shoulder-blade during the Bears' Week 1 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

Freeman did not meet the media after Sunday's game because the team said he was in concussion protocol. Both these injuries are unfortunate. He led the Bears with 127 tackles and seven tackles-for-loss in 2016 despite missing four games due to a suspension for violating the National Football League policy on performance enhancing substances. One silver lining from this news is that a fan favorite has made his way from the practice squad and onto the 53-man roster.

Gentry, a senior in 2016, finished his college career tied for fourth in Wyoming's history in touchdown receptions (20), fifth in career receiving yards (2,883) and eighth in career receptions (180). When Trubisky finally is elevated to QB1, it will be curious to see if Gentry sees a bump in playing time due to the chemistry the two of them have.

The Bears also are expected to sign wide receiver Mario Alford to the practice squad. Second-year linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski should assume Freeman's place alongside Danny Trevathan at inside linebacker.

Former Wyoming receiver Tanner Gentry has been moved from the Chicago Bears' practice squad to their active roster, the team announced Tuesday.
