Bears Place Freeman On IR

PITTSBURGH PA- JANUARY 01 Cleveland Browns Wide Receiver Mario Alford returns a kickoff during the fourth quarter of the National Football League game between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers

White was placed on the injured reserve list after breaking a bone in his shoulder-blade during the Bears' Week 1 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

The Bears placed Freeman, who was injured Sunday, and Kevin White, who broke his shoulder, on IR. That goes to show how good he can be, but it also shows how bad the Bears wide receivers are right now.

It is not clear whether or not Alford will join the active roster or the practice squad upon arriving in the "Windy City".

After last season's MASH unit that somewhat resembled an National Football League franchise, having a few injuries to start the 2017 season can't be too surprising. With Freeman out, Nick Kwiatkoski will see the defensive snaps in place of Freeman and Anderson will see the field in a few sub packages and largely on special teams.

Both players spent this past offseason with the Bears, and Anderson has appeared in 19 games of the past two seasons in Chicago, making three starts as an undrafted rookie back in 2015.

An NFL source told the Tribune on Tuesday that the Bears are promoting inside linebacker Jonathan Anderson from the practice squad, a move that would not be made this early in the week if Freeman were potentially going to be in action.

Their promotions to the 53-man roster opened up two spots on the practice squad, which Pace filled with two more players at the skill positions.
