Golden State's agreement with Rakuten is reportedly worth almost double the one between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Goodyear, which is now the NBA's second most lucrative deal.

Golden State has agreed to a patch advertising deal with Japanese tech company Rakuten and will sport the company's logo on its jerseys for the next three seasons, ESPN reported Tuesday.

This is the latest in a string of sponsorship deals for Rakuten, which owns messaging app Viber, e-book brand Kobo and cash-back site Ebates.

"We actually had multiple finalists", Bowers said. "So we felt in order to grow our global vision, we had to be aligned with a global brand".

Rakuten spent $235 million in July to have their name appear on the FC Barcelona's jerseys.

The 2017-2018 season marks the first time in National Basketball Association history that teams are allowed to sign jersey sponsorship deals.

The deal with Barca will run from this season through the 2020/2021 season and cost the company a stunning $260 million. Still, Golden State has opted to sell authentic and replica jerseys and jersey T-shirts with the Rakuten logos at Oracle Arena. The Warriors also will rename their practice facility the Rakuten Performance Center in addition to six other designations that go beyond the three-year deal.

"We are thrilled to partner with the Golden State Warriors, one of the most successful organizations in sports today and one that shares our passion for positivity, teamwork and optimism", said Hiroshi Mikitani, Rakuten's founder and CEO. "We signed a partner we had never done business with before".

Along with their spot on the jerseys, Rakuten also becomes the Warriors' Official E-Commerce Partner, Official Video-On-Demand Partner and Official Affiliate Marketing Partner, and a number of Rakuten products and services also get the "Warriors Official" treatment.

With the 2017-18 National Basketball Association season nearing, 14 teams have announced patch deals.
