US Weakens Resolution on North Korea to Gain Chinese and Russian Support

We have long reported that Russian Federation was increasing its trade with North Korea as China began to reduce flows per the request of President Trump in the face of Kim Jong-un's nuclear weapon development and ballistic missile tests.

"While bitcoin and cryptocurrency exchanges may seem like odd targets for nation state actors interested in funding state coffers, some of the other illicit endeavours North Korea pursues further demonstrate interest in conducting financial crime on the regime's behalf", the firm said.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said the United States was "not looking for war" and if North Korea agreed to stop its nuclear program, it could "reclaim its future".

The report led to an increasingly bellicose verbal exchange between President Donald Trump and North Korea, with the hermit kingdom threatening the United States territory of Guam.

"My delegation condemns in the strongest terms and categorically rejects the latest illegal and unlawful U.N. Security Council resolution", North Korean Ambassador Han Tae Song told the U.N. -sponsored Conference on Disarmament in Geneva. Trump has vowed not to allow North Korea to possess a nuclear missile capable of hitting the United States.

The resolution, adopted in response to Pyongyang's sixth and strongest nuclear test explosion, bans North Korea from importing all natural gas liquids and condensates.

"Because of uneven, and sometimes nonexistent, worldwide implementation, North Korea shrugs off the practical impact of many restrictions, and is still exporting prohibited goods such as weapons, minerals, and statues", Billingslea said. Chinese envoy Liu Jieyi said that the U.S. must not try and change the situation by using military force and that "China will continue to advance dialogue", reported the New York Times.

"We have been clear in close consultation with the Americans that oil has to be included as an element of sanctions", South Korean foreign minister Kang Kyung-Wha told reporters.

The Post cites USA court documents that describe a web of "front companies" formed by Russian citizens to specifically hide deals with North Korea. In addition, work permits for North Koreans will not be renewed, and no new North Korean workers can be hired outside of the country.

North Korea is "ready to use a form of ultimate means", Han said.

"We think we have an understanding", Pompeo said.

The publicity stunt came as his envoy to the United Nations warned "forthcoming measures" will "make the U.S. suffer the greatest pain" it has ever experienced.

The US needs the support of both of its geopolitical rivals for its current strategy of using economic pressure and diplomacy - and not military options - for getting North Korea to halt its testing of nuclear bombs and the missiles for delivering them.
