Two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists killed in encounter with security forces in Kulgam, J&K

Security forces on Sunday had two local Hizbul Mujahideen militants in an overnight encounter in Kashmir while the third surrendered, making it the first case of arrest during a gunfight in several years.

A senior police officer said the militants were asked to surrender during the search operation. The forces also recovered two weapons - one AK47 and one INSAS rifle.

One militant sympathiser apprehended during the operation along with a pistol and other arms.

An over-ground worker (OGW) was arrested during the operation, said an official.

Yesterday, another Hizb militant, Adil, surrendered before security forces during an encounter in Shopian district.

The slain militants were reportedly identified as Sayar Ahmad Wani and Dawood Illahi Khan.

Khudwani, once notorious for stone-pelting mobs, did not witness any resistance from civilians after today's encounter.

According to the Defence Ministry sources, the three soldiers were injured in Keran sector of Kupwara district. The incident happened when the soldiers were conducting their routine patrolling.
