Mobile Numbers Not Linked With Aadhaar Number Will be Deactivated After February 2018

As per sources, all unlinked mobile phone numbers will be deactivated after February 2018. At that time, Union government had responded to the court's order by saying that it would use Aadhaar number to establish a genuine owner of a SIM card.

The Central government had told the Supreme Court in February that it would put in place, within a year, an effective mechanism for the verification of pre-paid mobile users who constitute 90 per cent of the total subscribers.

The attorney general had said that the government agreed to the idea, but given the huge number, of mobile phone users (about 105 crore), the process will take time.

How to link mobile with aadhaar?

Enter your Aadhar number, and the Captcha text and request for OTP. The court also directed the Centre to device a way so that each person with a pre-paid sim would have to fill and deposit a form whenever he or she recharges.

- Visit the nearest Aadhaar centre and submit an Aadhaar update/correction form along with relevant documents. "In the near future, and more particularly, within one year from today, a similar verification will be completed, in the case of existing customers".

- Select and update "mobile number" section with your new number.

Your biometrics will have verified following the submission at the enrollment centre, and your thumb impression has proved.

If you haven't linked your SIM card with your Aadhaar card yet, it is the time that you do.

With Aadhar, you will have strong link your new mobile number only after submitting the OTP sent to your old number. For the updating to happen but as per the UIDAI helpline, the turnaround time for the update is 10 days. But for that you need have the existing number linked to your Aadhaar, functional and handy as the OTP to authenticate the updation would be sent to your existing number.

You will find an option under the Aadhaar Update tab that will redirect the user to the Aadhar Self-Service portal. The linking the Aadhaar to PAN card has also been made mandatory by the government to file Income Tax returns as well as applying for a new Permanent Account Numbers (PAN) card. Now, enter the mobile number details.

Under "Select field (s) to update", select "Mobile Number".
