The actor is set to take on the role of Major Ben Daimio, previously held by Deadpool actor Ed Skrein who exited the role due to the whitewashing of the character.

The pre-production of Lionsgate's highly-anticipated Hellboy reboot hit a rough patch last month when they cast Ed Skrein as Major Ben Daimio. And his credentials go further than his Marine Corps training: after a supernatural encounter, he turns into a were-jaguar when he's in pain or suitably angry.

Just two weeks ago Ed Skrein independently made a decision to leave the reboot of Hellboy to make way for a racially appropriate actor to fulfill his role.

The public backlash following Skrein's initial casting reignited the debate about whitewashing in Hollywood.

When Mr. Kim departed "Hawaii Five-0" earlier this year after failing to favorably resolve a salary dispute with CBS executives, he thanked his fans in a July 5 statement on his Facebook page that touched on issues of diversity in Hollywood.

The producer of the US TV show then spoke about the departure of Kim and fellow star Grace Park following reports that the pair had asked to be paid the same as their white co-stars. "That said, it's possible to be grateful for the opportunity and respectful of the colleagues and the people that I work with and still maintain a steadfast sense of your self-worth". According to Buzzfeed, Daniel Dae Kim will be taking Skrein's role in the upcoming film.

That said, Kim is a great choice for the role, and assuming he takes the part, it should be a lot of fun seeing him interact with star David Harbour as Hellboy.

It's no doubt that Dae Kim would be ideal for playing the role of Major Ben Daimio.
