Speaking about dynasty politics he said: "Most of the country runs like this". The Congress leader fervidly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying his government had ruined India's economy with the badly planned demonetisation exercise.

Dismissing the criticism by Mr Gandhi, Mr Prasad questioned, "Is Mr Gandhi's compliment the yardstick for the functioning of the government". The Ambani kids are also running the company, that is just the way India runs.

"Passing remarks on Prime Minister Modi is not new for Rahul Gandhi", said Smriti Irani adding, "However, Rahul Gandhi must not forget that the nation has put its faith in our Prime Minister", she added.

"A failed dynast today chose to speak about his failed political journeys in USA", she said commenting on Rahul Gandhi's charge of dynasticism being prevalent in India.

In his address, he also admitted that the Congress party had to suffer due to its arrogance.

"The Congress Vice President has publicly proclaimed that under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, the Congress became arrogant. A failed dynast talked about his failed political journeys in US", Irani said in a scathing attack.

On Modi's foreign policy: "Whereas I completely agree with their positioning as far as the (ties with) the U.S. is concerned, I think they're making India vulnerable because, if you look at Nepal, the Chinese are there".

Referring the small and medium enterprises as the bedrock of India's economic progress, Rahul said that millions of businesses were simply wiped out as a result of the Prime Minister's decision.

Addressing students at University of California's Berkeley, Gandhi said that he was absolutely ready to be the Congress' PM candidate for the 2019 elections.

"For nine years I worked behind the scenes with PM Manmohan Singh, P. Chidambaram, Jairam Ramesh and others on J&K", said Rahul. "The fact that Rahul Gandhi chose to belittle the prime minister is not a surprise but expected".

"Whatever he said doesn't reflect the popular sentiments of the people of J-K or even people of India at large".

"Decisions like demonetisation taken without asking the Chief Economic Advisor and the Parliament caused a tremendous damage. We are, in fact, redeeming the sins that were committed by the Congress over the last five decades", he added.

BJP spokesperson Smriti Irani at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi. "And when we finished by 2013, we basically broke the back of terror, I hugged (then) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and told him it was one of the biggest achievements".

Gandhi also took a dig at the BJP by claiming that "the central architecture of the BJP's schemes are ours", and cited MGNREGA and GST as two prime examples of that. "He's a very good communicator and understands how to deliver a message to three or four groups in a crowd...", he said.
