The Texas Rangers are assisting the investigation because a Plano officer was involved, according to the newspaper. "He went into the house on his own", Rushin said. "It's just a bad event".

Witness Crystal Sugg, who works nearby the scene, described to Fox 4 what she saw outside the home before shooting started.

"After he heard the gunshots, he made entry and that's when he observed several victims inside and then engaged the suspect", he told a local paper. "It's a quiet neighborhood".

At around 8:00 PM, everything changed.

Eight people died Sunday in a home shooting in Plano, Texas.

In all, nine people were shot by the suspect, Rushin said. "When the officer got there, he approached from the rear of the residence".

"The first thing he heard was shots being fired".

The victims' cars remained parked near the house on Monday evening. All the people who died in the shooting were adults in their 20s and 30s and the victims were of both genders, Rushin said. The names and relationships of those at the home, and the name of the police officer, were not released.

The incident happened in the West Spring Creek Parkway area of Plano. He was also armed with at least two firearms of different kinds.

Investigators were still at the home collecting evidence on Monday, Rushin said.
