Destiny 2: Servers Will Be Down for Four Hours Today

Destiny 2 servers down for four hours today

Just shy of one week after launch, Bungie has removed an in-game armor piece from Destiny 2 after being alerted that the gauntlet's design strongly resembled that of a white supremacist flag.

For more on Destiny 2, be sure to check out our review in progress, and stop by tomorrow when we'll be livestreaming the game's first major event, the Leviathan Raid. Bungie is already scrambling to clear its name: "This does NOT represent our values, and we are working quickly to correct this", the company wrote on Twitter.

Bungie CEO Pete Parsons doubled down on the decision to remove the Destiny 2 gauntlets hate symbol with a tweet of his own saying that Bungie supports inclusion and respect for both their employees and their players. "Our deepest apologies. We renounce [sic] hate in all forms". The company explained that the reference was not "intentional" and that it will be removing it from the game.

Fans of Destiny 2 will have to try not to panic this afternoon as servers go down for a spell of maintenance.

Although the word "kek" originated as a World of Warcraft meme, it has since been repurposed by alt-right internet denizens as a symbol of white nationalism, not unlike Pepe the Frog. This features a logo similar to that of the flag adopted by a particular hate group.
