Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Oakland, Livingston, Washtenaw counties

Howard, Tipton counties under 'enhanced risk' for severe weather today

Environment Canada had issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the area for early Monday evening.

Wednesday will likely bring showers and a possible thunderstorm for the Peninsula, according to the National Weather Service.

The active weather is expected to come to an end on Friday with a high of 18C and a mix of sun and cloud throughout the day and night.

The warning lasts until 6:30 p.m. Large hail, damaging winds and torrential rainfall were also forecast.

Delaware County will be under the greatest threat for severe weather from 8 p.m.to 11 p.m. today.

Areas to be affected include Cheektowaga, West Seneca, Clarence, Batavia, Depew, Lancaster, Darien Lakes State Park and Elma.

In a hazardous weather statement, the National Weather Service said there is a risk for strong, severe thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon. Forecasters said the main threat will be the potential for damaging wind gusts. "Some of the storms could become severe at times".
