Barcelona `close` to sign Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele

Philippe Coutinho

Liverpool have been adamant they are unwilling to enter into any negotiations for Coutinho and rejected his transfer request last Friday. "Phil is not available".

'To be honest I have nothing to say about his attitude because since he has had a back problem he has obviously not been in training, ' Klopp said.

Barcelona general manager Pep Segura has revealed the La Liga giants are "close" to completing a deal for Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho.

"Nothing to say from our side", Klopp told reporters on Thursday. We know that we can always score. "I have never met him [Josep Segura]".

Listen we are all not silly - we know it is a very hard situation but there is nothing new to say. "But this time this is the situation".

The Reds have brought in Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Dominic Solanke this summer so far.

They have been linked in British media with moves for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk and midfielder Naby Keita from RB Leipzig, but both players' clubs have said they are not for sale at any price.

And with the player pushing to go, Barcelona will persevere.

I'm not sure why I have to answer this because the club has said what we have to say, but nothing new from us.

"We know that we have to strengthen the team and that's what we will continue to do in the coming days".

The Brazil interntional has missed the first two matches of the season after he informed the club of his desire to leave on the eve of the campaign. Liverpool's game previous year was all about attackers alternating positions so much, and it was often down to Coutinho to choose the right tempo of the play.

You can not change a natural footballing side that goes forward but we know we have to mix that with a good defensive, aggressive spirit to make sure they don't score the goals.
