Tracking hate groups in the Mid

There are 917 hate groups now operating across the USA, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The Southern Poverty Law Center was founded in 1971 and is based in Montgomery, Alabama.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has been criticized in the past for having too broad a definition of hate.

"The Daily Stormer went from one chapter in 2015 to about 30 in 2016", she said, noting that numerous new groups were having in-person meetings and not just communicating online.

In 2011, the total number hit its peak with over 1,000 groups operating.

The map clearly shows a high concentration of hate groups in Southeastern regions of the country.

A map shows the groups are spread all over the USA and not just concentrated in the South or rural areas. According to the SPLC's website, general hate groups espouse a variety of rather unique hateful doctrines and beliefs that are not easily categorized.

According to the group's site, it is a Revolutionary National Socialist organization centered around political activism and the practice of an autonomous Fascist lifestyle. See SPLC's map here.

The anti-Muslim organization the Shoebat Foundation is headquartered in Newtown and the Ku Klos Knights of the Ku Klux Klan are located in Bally, PA, about 55 miles away from Philadelphia. The groups vary from neo-Nazi, white nationalist, KKK, anti-Muslim and black separatist groups.

So, what are the hate groups in the US?

While SPLC tracks real hate groups such as the Ku Klux Klan, the Aryan Brotherhood, and the Westboro Baptist Church, they also tend to designate mainstream conservative politicians and groups on their lists of "extremists".
