Filming of superhero sequel Deadpool 2 has begun again following the tragic death of stunt performer Joi "SJ" Harris, who died when her motorcycle crashed through a glass window while filming an action sequence.

Harris, who is thought to have been doubling for Zazie Beetz, who plays the mutant Domino in the movie, promoted herself on her website as "the first licensed African American women in US history to actively compete in sanctioned motorcycle road racing events".

Her manager said SJ was "over the moon" to have landed the opportunity to work in the upcoming blockbuster film, adding, "This was her dream to be able to perform and ride on the biggest stage. I want to show them that there's more for them to be exposed to", Harris said".

Deadline previously reported that her job on the "Deadpool 2" set was her first for a major film. "She was living her dream, when her life was suddenly cut short while filming as a stunt rider". She was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred for continuity purposes, since Domino wasn't wearing one in the scene.

Friends are remembering Harris as an awesome and remarkable woman who loved riding and was a pioneer in her field.

Reynolds, a local of Vancouver playing the Marvel Comics super-human Deadpool in the Twentieth Century Fox film, said his heart "spills out to them - alongside every single individual she touched in this world".

This isn't the first stuntperson who has died on set this year.

Watson says separate investigations of the crash are underway by the coroners' service and WorkSafeBC, the workers' compensation authority in the province.

A notice for the production went up late last night, noting that filming for today and tomorrow would proceed "in the aftermath of an accident", with "debris" to be "spread out" on location during the dates.
