Omar Abdullah said abrogation of Article 35A will affect many regions in Jammu and Kashmir

Hours after she hailed the united stand of J&K mainstream parties on Article 35 A saying "when it comes to safeguarding our status, we are one... like a fist", Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks Tuesday that separatism can only be defeated by embracing Kashmiris and not through violence. Jammu and Kashmir's conditional accession with India had begun with New Delhi looking after the foreign affairs, defense, and communication of the erstwhile princely State of Jammu and Kashmir. Article 35A also empowers the State's legislature to frame any law without attracting a challenge on grounds of violating the Right to Equality of people from other States or any other right under the Constitution.

Undoubtedly, Article 35-A, Is the last nail in coffin.

The petitioner alleged that if a woman marries a person outside J&K, then according to Article 35A, she loses property rights as well as job opportunities in the state.

While Jammu and Kashmir's Non-Permanent Resident Certificate holders can vote in Lok Sabha elections, the same individual is barred to vote in local elections in the state.

Supreme Court today tagged a petition challenging constitutionality of Article 35A with several similar petitions already being heard by the court.

The BJP leader further said that this kind of misleading attitude will not work anymore because there is a party (BJP) which works for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and for the interest of the state.

Later this month, the Supreme Court will hear a petition filed by Delhi-based NGO "We the Citizens" demanding the article be repealed. "Kashmir is a human issue and Vajpayee ji had said that government of India will resolve the issue of within the ambit of humanity".

The National Conference leader said it was a myth that investments were not coming to Jammu and Kashmir.
