Gylfi Sigurdsson: Everton agree £45m deal for Swansea midfielder

Everton have finally agreed a deal to sign Swansea midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson for around £45 million ($57 million), according to reports on Tuesday.

The 27-year old was integral to Swansea retaining their Premier League status for another season, and his productive campaign saw only Kevin De Bruyne and Christian Eriksen, two of the league's chief creators, record more assists.

But Everton are finally set to secure their number one summer target at a price slightly lower than Swansea had wanted.

The arrival of Sigurdsson at Goodison Park is likely to push McCarthy even further down the Everton pecking order and that could well be to the advantage of Newcastle.

Both Everton and Leicester City saw £40m offers rejected earlier this summer but the former has continued to pursue a move despite being told by the Swans he could cost as much as £50m.

Everton were keen to tie up the swoop before the transfer window closes at the end of August and it is believed Swansea have at last agreed to sell their prize asset.

"The objective and the aim is that at some point the two clubs will meet", Clement said ahead of the goalless draw at Southampton.

Clement said: "We're at a critical stage and hope it's going to be resolved as soon as possible".

He scored 30 goals for Swansea since rejoining them in 2014 after a two-year spell at Tottenham.

But that figure will now significantly rise with the capture of Sigurdsson, who can fill a variety of forward positions.
