Flags to fly half-staff for fallen Clinton officer

William Noble's booking

The charge alleges that Noble threw the rifle used in the murder of Officer Michael into a body of water North of Clinton, knowing that it had been used in the crime and with the intent to hide it from investigators. Police are investigating how McCarthy traveled 13 miles after being shot by Michael.

During the course of an interview, Lowe said, investigators determined that Noble had disposed of the rifle believed to have been used in Sunday's shooting death of Clinton police Officer Gary Michael.

The suspect in the case, Ian McCarthy, was arrested after an alert driver provided a tip that the fugitive was wandering within miles of where the killing took place, a law enforcement official said.

When Noble asked what kind of weapon was used to kill the officer, an investigator with the highway patrol told him, "He knew the answer to this question", according to the affidavit.

"Officer Michael's family and his department still grieve, and the entire state of Missouri joins them in their grief", said Governor Greitens.

His bond has been set at $25,000 cash only.

The officers then asked Noble if he knew where the gun was. Then hiding it while McCarthy was on the run for two days.

Lowe says the relationship between McCarthy and Noble is unclear. He says he "panicked" Monday when he saw the rifle leaning against a doorway at his home.

The rife meets the description of the weapon used in the murder of Officer Gary Michael.

On Thursday, the officers drove him to the location outside the city and found the gun in water near the intersection of NW 300th and NW 131st roads.
