Chelsea have so far refused to follow up a £15million bid for Danny Drinkwater that was rejected by Leicester City earlier in the summer, according to reports.

Law wrote Chelsea will make a second offer for Drinkwater as part of a plan to sign up to three players before this summer's transfer window closes on August 31. It is understood that the England global himself is interested in a move to Stamford Bridge and the move could be finalised in the coming days. The Blues were thwarted with an initial bid for the 27-year-old, with Chelsea keeping an interest in the midfield general since last season and are in dire need for cover owing to a bevy of suspensions and injuries.

Roma have been heavily linked with Mahrez, who had asked Leicester to be sold and spoke in positive terms about the Giallorossi, but Shakespeare made it clear his club would not be bullied into selling any of their stars.

Although Chelsea have brought in Tiemoue Bakayoko to replace their Serbian midfielder, they are well short of numbers on the bench, with just 14 experienced players available.

However, the Foxes are ready to dig their heels in and demand the £40m Chelsea received from Manchester United for Nemanja Matic.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ross Barkley emerged as targets for the Italian boss but recent reports suggest Drinkwater has also caught the eye of the reigning champions.

Drinkwater and Kante were key figures in the Foxes winning the Premier League two seasons ago as they partnered each other in a midfield that outplayed the rest of the division and the England worldwide is believed to be interested in a reunion with his former teammate.
