Zach Randolph arrested for marijuana possession

According to CBS 2 in Los Angeles, Sacramento Kings power forward Zach Randolph was arrested on felony charges of drug possession and intent to sell in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles last night.

He said officers from the LAPD Southeast Division were on a routine patrol when they encountered a large crowd blocking the street while drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana.

TMZ said the crowd of people became unruly after the arrests, and officers had to call for backup.

Randolph, a two-time All Star who joined the Kings on a two-year $24 million contract earlier this summer from the Memphis Grizzlies, was detained along with another man. Some in the crowd threw bottles and vandalized police cars.

According to the police report, Randolph was arrested at 11 p.m. PT and booked at 4:23 a.m. Thursday morning.

It remains to be seen how this will impact Randolph's future in California's capital city, but it's most definitely not a good look for the veteran big man.

According to sheriff's booking records, Randolph is out on $20,000 bail and has an August 31 court date set in Los Angeles. TMZ is reporting that Randolph and his associates had two pounds of marijuana with them at the time of the arrest. He formerly played for Portland, Memphis and, briefly, with the LA Clippers and New York Knicks.

As for Randolph, he was given a $20,000 bond, and he may think twice about heading back into "The Gardens" again to smoke some Mary Jane.

According to Randolph's agent and attorney Raymond Brothers, the accusations were false and misleading. Randolph's career with the Grizzlies saw him put up 16.8 points and 10.2 boards while shooting 47.6 percent from the field.
