OnePlus 3 and 3T to get Android O as final software update

OnePlus Confirms Android O is Last Big Update for OP3/3T ...

At this point, the OnePlus 3 is 14 months old while the OnePlus 3T is just 9 months old from their respective dates of release.

Although it's a bad news at least OnePlus has decided not to keep the users in dark.

The popular OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones will receive no further Android updates following the launch of Android O later this year. As OnePlus 3 and OnPlus 3T owners were in the dilemma whether their handset would get any software update in the future. To do this, they brought in OnePlus' Head of Product, Oliver, as they'll be able to given official statements on the topics at hand.

He has also stated that the Android 8.0 O will be the last major update made for the mentioned devices, though security patches will still be available and coming in the "foreseeable future".

Furthermore, Oliver went on to say that the Open Beta program for the 3/3T will end and exclusively be for the current flagship, the OnePlus 5. OnePlus' Oliver Z on the OnePlus forum confirmed this detail in a QnA session posted on the forum.

OnePlus 3/3T owners out there, what are your thoughts about your phone stopping at Android O for major updates? Some of this may be due to the company using an older SoC for a smartphone they just released (the OnePlus X in this case), while they say others are because of their premature software team at the time (the OnePlus 2 in this case).

Open Beta Program is where users can join in to test and review the software before their final release.

During the Q&A, OnePlus also announced that it plans to push the August security patches to the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T very soon. The program will only be used exclusively for OnePlus 5-the premium phone released in June.
