Apt word for Dinakaran is '420', says TN CM — AIADMK merger issue

AIADMK leaders visit Delhi Tamil Nadu CM meets PM Modi over exempting state from purview of NEET exams

A number of leaders and party workers of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) are set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by the end of August, according to a report in The Economic Times. He was responding to a query from the media on the resolution adoptedby the EPS camp nullifying the announcements made by AIADMK Amma faction deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran.

The functionary's assertion came in the context of sudden spurt in political activity in Chennai on Thursday. The Panneerselvam faction, which has been demanding ouster of Sasikala, now in jail, and Dhinakaran as a pre-condition for merger, termed the development as an "awakening".

Mr Panneerselvam, the head of the rival faction, is also in Delhi.

After the demise of former TN CM J Jayalalitha, the AIADMK was divided into camps in a bitter power struggle. "For sure, all steps will be taken for party growth". It may even welcome the entry of the AIADMK in the Modi government.

Top BJP leaders said an overhaul of the state party machinery was in the works as Shah wants BJP to become more visible in the state.

A merger may facilitate both the sides to reach an agreement to aproach the EC afresh for defreezing the symbol.

Palaniswamy and OPS are likely to meet and finalise the reunion on the weekend.

The OPS camp is clear on wanting Sasikala and Dinakaran out of the party. Also, if OPS agrees to be deputy CM, he could have the portfolio of home.

There are tricky issues before the government as it runs on a wafer-thin majority, but the fear of being toppled shouldn't preclude proper governance. He said the ministers were acting against him due to some "fear", and only they should explain what it was.

Dhinakaran, who was appointed by Sasikala as her deputy following her conviction in a disproportionate assets case, was sidelined by the party in April. This marked the emergence of two groups in AIADMK. The poll was later countermanded. Dinakaran was the party candidate in the bypoll necessitated by the death of Jayalalithaa.
