The Red Devils finished in sixth place in the table in Mourinho's first term in charge as they effectively surrendered their remaining domestic fixtures in order to prioritise winning the Europa League.

He has trained with the club during his rehabilitation, though, and Mourinho has made clear he still believes the forward can do a job for him.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is in talks with Manchester United over rejoining the club for the second half of the new season, Jose Mourinho has confirmed.

Not only that, but Crespo was talking about how he sees Mourinho, and the different personas the manager has in front of the media and in front of the players, and says that he loved working with Mourinho for three reasons.

"It's not something urgent, it's nothing that you are desperate to have it done or not done".

"He thinks he can do more at football's highest level so we are having conversations and discussing the possibility of him staying for the second part of the season".

"In my initial analysis from January and through the months I was thinking of four players but I'm not a hard person to work with in spite of if you make it look different", said Mourinho, ahead of United's Premier League opener against West Ham, live on Sky Sports Premier League on Sunday.

Mourinho has spent £147 million to bring Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Lindelof to Old Trafford. We got a central midfielder, a striker, obviously the 25% would be for a player from the sides, but we have players. "We lost Marcos Rojo, Ashley Young, Luke Shaw, Zlatan Ibrahimovic", he said.

"Between the players we have lost and the players we have got, I think we are in a similar situation but with more experience of working together and a much better pre-season". We have confidence levels of a team that won a European competition and is back in the Champions League.

"I'm happy with the club's efforts. I think we are ready".

Mourinho wants a fourth addition in a wide position but will not complain if that does not happen.

"I am not a hard person to work with, and I understand the reality of the market".

"So I don't think I am in a position of crying, of moaning, of protesting".

"It's different to any one of the other leagues".

'Look sometimes when I win I don't keep the medals, so imagine when I lose, ' he said.

"We got a central midfielder, we got a striker".
