Are you ready for 30 more hours of No Man's Sky?

No Man's Sky Atlas Rises update COUNTDOWN: Hello Games launching new patch soon

"This update marks the one year anniversary of No Man's Sky, and a lot has changed", said Hello Games.

If I were in charge of Hello Games I would make this update the last and try to start fresh with something new.

This update is called Atlas Rises and includes an overhauled story, portals, procedural mission system, trade improvement, system economies, joint exploration, terrain editing, and plenty more. The full list of improvements can be seen below as well as the latest trailer for the update. Players can now explore rare new exotic planet types as they journey toward the galactic core, discover and scavenge lost cargo from big crashed Freighters on planetary surfaces, use the terrain manipulator to excavate buried resources in the region, and complete Salvage missions for Guild rewards.

Visit the new Mission Agent in Space Stations to pick up unique and rewarding new tasks. This adds a huge amount of replayability. The campaign focuses on the introduction of a new interdimensional race, although no more details on this have been revealed. And if you wanted to be an interstellar tycoon, now star systems have their economic strengths and weaknesses.

No Man's Sky Atlas Rises update COUNTDOWN: Hello Games launching new patch soon

No Man's Sky may have been the biggest disappointment of 2016, but that doesn't mean its developers have given up on it quite yet. Plus a new HUD has been introduced to improve the experience of space combat. NPC guilds have been added with reputation standing, objective, and rewards.

The redesigned galaxy map offers a lot more information. This opens up the new trading metagame.

Placing focus on the game's central story is a good thing, as it was often criticized in the past. Developer Hello Games is also promising to streamline travel, improve the game's graphics, add new aliens and ships, and even incorporate some basic multiplayer elements. The official description confirms the player count as well as voice over IP for the multiplayer but this has yet to be tested in the actual game. This will result in cool moments that fit well with the story we are developing (which features other travellers "glitching" between universes). Ancient portals can now be activated too, allowing players to revisit previous planets, others bases or jump randomly to new worlds. While Hello Games admits that "interaction with others is now very limited", you can still communicate with one another through proximity-based VoIP.
