At the end of past year, when longstanding Lego chief executive Jorgen Vig Knudstorp vacated the position to head up the new Lego Brand Group umbrella company, chief operations officer Bali Padda was installed in the toy company's CEO space. Since October 2017 Padda will assume a special advisory role at the newly formed Lego Brand Group serving as "a wonderful ambassador for the LEGO brand".

Christiansen said he was honored to join the company.

A LEGO spokesman said Christiansen, who left engineering company Danfoss at the end of June, after leading the company for nine years, was the "perfect match" for the Chief Executive job at LEGO.

Niels B. Christiansen has spent the last 9 years as CEO of another family-owned, Danish-based group, Danfoss.

Christiansen, who led Danfoss for almost a decade, has replaced 61-year-old British businessman Bali Padda, who was the first non-Dane to lead LEGO in its 85-year history.

"He transformed a traditional industrial company into a technology leader", said Vig Knudstorp — a former Lego CEO himself — adding he was confident the toymaker "will continue to flourish" under Christiansen. Knudstorp said the transition to a new CEO occurred more rapidly than the Board had anticipated.
