10 People Injured After Being Ejected From Boat in Indiana

A boat spinning out of control with no one at the wheel - that's what conservation officers say happened Saturday after a drunk driver lost control on Lake Gage in Steuben County. "I approximately guessed 20 to 30 miles per hour 20 to 25 and that's not, especially with a boat of that size, something that I could just jump on without some serious consideration".

That's when it slowed enough for IN conservation officer Jake Carlile to jump on board from a jet ski.

They arrested Effinger for Boating While Intoxicated causing injury and being a Minor in Possession of Alcohol.

Initial information from investigating Conservation Officers shows that Dominique Effinger, 20 of Ft.

Four of the ten people thrown from the boat were treated for serious injuries. The entangled rope slowed the runaway boat enough that Carlile was able to use a nearby personal watercraft to jump onto the runaway boat and stop it.

In the video footage of the accident, the unmanned boat can be seen circling around at a high speed after throwing off people as conservation officers try to get control of it. "Alcohol was found to be a factor in the accident", it added.

The boat was a Correct Craft Ski Ski Nautique, according to the DNR officials, NewsChannel 15 reported. "The boat struck a dock and diverted it's direction into the rear of the patrol boat Carlile was operating, disabling the patrol boat's motor due to the impact".

During the pursuit, the boat hit several other passengers, a dock, and the back end of the patrol boat that police deployed to deal with the situation according to NBC News.

Conservation Ofc. Jake Carlisle was able to throw a rope from his own patrol boat to entangle the propeller of the runaway boat.

Several seriously injured people were immediately taken to shore by people on other boats so emergency responders could tend to the injuries, the release said.

The incident remains under investigation.
