Pakistan Army launches operation Khyber-4 in Rajgal Vallley: ISPR

DG ISPR Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor addresses a press conference in Rawalpindi on Sunday

"If splinter groups of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan try to jump on the Daesh bandwagon, we are already taking care of them, like through Operation Khyber-4", he said. He said global border with Afghanistan will be fully secured to check infiltration of terrorists and to destroy their hideouts in our side of the border.

Major General Asif, however, admitted that the presence of Daish is increasing in the areas adjacent to Afghanistan, and did not negate the possibility of alliance of Daish with some components of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

"Once this operation is completed, we will first secure the worldwide border on our side and eliminate the hideouts of various terrorist groups", Ghafoor added.

Given the terrain and thick forest cover in the area, it is expected that Khyber-IV would be a tough operation.

This will be the fourth time an operation will displace the people of Khyber Agency since 2014.

DG ISPR said all state institutions are on one page when it comes to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Major General Asif Ghafoor added that 500 families are forced to live away from their homes.

Pakistan is seeking support from Afghanistan to control the border but Ghafoor made it clear that it will not allow "foreign boots on the ground" in its territory.

He said the entire border will be fenced and it would be kept under electronic and manual vigil permanently by constructing forts and posts after every 1.5 km distance.

He said that Pakistan Army cooperated during the census and is also ready to deal with the flood situation.

He said that Pakistan Army is a part of Pakistan and is working for the country's defence.

The army spokesperson also gave a country-wide breakdown of the operations taken as part of Operation Raddul Fasaad. About 1,760 joint checkposts have been established in coordination with police and other law enforcement agencies, he said.

Elaborating situation on the Line of Control, Asif Ghafoor said India is committing massive ceasefire violations on LOC to divert world attention from the grave human rights violations and indigenous struggle of Kashmiris in the Occupied Kashmir.

Kulbhushan Jadhav: To a question about Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav, who was sentenced to death by a Field General Court Martial, the ISPR chief said Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa was reviewing the proceedings of the case. He assured that the decision of the Army Chief will be based on justice.

On June 4, Pakistan security forces had claimed killing over a dozen suspected ISIL fighters during a security operation in southwestern Balochistan province that was aimed at recovering a Chinese couple kidnapped by the terror group in May last.

He said all state institutions are on one page when it comes to the CPEC.

"For this, the army should continue to perform its role with support of all other state institutions".

Director General Asif Ghafoor has said that the army or the military establishment has no direct link with the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), set up by the Supreme Court to investigate the alleged offshore assets of the Sharif family.

"JIT was constituted by the Supreme Court". However, the investigation team had two members of Military Intelligence (MI) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) and they honestly shoulder their duties.

He went on to say that the constitution of Pakistan should be respected by all.
