No direct involvement of Pak Army in JIT investigation: ISPR

A Pakistan army soldier stands guard in the Pakistani tribal area of Khyber near the Torkham border post between Pakistan and Afghanistan Wednesday

He said that a major operation was carried out Rajgal Valley along Pakistan-Afghan border on Sunday morning.

He reiterated that Daesh has no presence in Pakistan but the area, next to the Afghan border, is being used by militants affiliated to it.

Though Afghan forces have been informed and Afghanistan may support the operation on their side of the border, the offensive is a purely domestic affair, Ghafoor said.

Given the terrain and thick forest cover in the area, it is expected that Khyber-IV would be a tough operation.

The DG ISPR said a follow-up operation, Khyber-4, has been launched in tribal areas.

The DG said one division troops with the support of PAF are taking part in the operation. "Around 500 families had been living in this area, which are now staying on safer places as Temporarily Displaced Persons", he added.

Referring to the ongoing phase-1 of fencing at the Pak-Afghan border, he said on average there is a fort or check post every 1.5 kilometres.

On Sunday, Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that the government has made a decision to defend every clause of the JIT report with complete proofs in the court.

He said that Pakistan Army cooperated during the census and is also ready to deal with the flood situation.

Ghafoor said that "There is a blame game as to why the Haqqani network is here", and said his country fought against all terrorists.

He also said that 22 terrorists were killed in Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad in Punjab. About 1,760 joint checkposts have been established in coordination with police and other law enforcement agencies, he said. Current ceasefire violations have resulted in the highest number of civilian casualties than in the past, he said.

Answering a question about the case of Indian Naval Agent Kubhushan Jhadev, the DG ISPR said, the agent was given time to appeal before the appellate Military Court and after rejection from there the culprit had appealed before the Chief of Army Staff (COAS). He said the security forces of Pakistan are very vigilant to foil enemies' designs against CPEC.

Director General Maj-Gen Asif Ghafoor told a news conference that there is no organised infrastructure of Daesh in Pakistan.

The JIT comprising officials from different agencies including those from powerful spy agencies the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the Military Intelligence officials, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and State Bank of Pakistan was formed after the Supreme Court's verict in April to probe money laundering charges against the Sharif family. ordered the formation of a Joint Investigation Team in April.

The corps commanders, during an extraordinary meeting on April 24, while nominating ISI and MI representatives for the JIT, had said: "The institution through its members in the JIT shall play its due role in a legal and transparent manner fulfilling confidence reposed by the apex court".
