Lucas Leiv-ing: Liverpool stalwart lands for Lazio switch

Transfer report Lazio ‘in pole position’ to sign departing Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva

Lazio star Senad Lulic has been responsible for the latest hint that Lucas Leiva's proposed move to the Italian side is close.

Lucas sat out last night's friendly as Wigan Athletic.

After nearly 350 appearances spanning a ten-year period, it looks like Lucas Leiva has played his last game for Liverpool.

Lazio have reached an agreement on a fee of €6.5m with Liverpool for the Brazilian midfielder, who has a further year left to run on his contract at Anfield.

Should the move be completed, it brings to an end Lucas' time at a club where he really had to fight to earn the fans' appreciation.

The 30-year-old is a former Brazil worldwide, and represented the Selecao on 24 occasions between 2007 and 2013. Indeed, there are rumors that Lucas could be flying to Italy for a medical early in the coming week.

The midfielder made only three Premier League starts in the previous campaign, and was part of an intense squad-rotation system devised by manager Jurgen Klopp.

While he might not have been the first player on the team sheet, he does hold some importance in the squad exclusively due to his abundance of experience.

Now we are losing our sole player from the Rafa Benitez era we are looking at the 5 players who have been at the club the longest.
