Henry and Stroman named to Thorpe Award Watch List

Thorpe played professional baseball, professional basketball and was the 1912 Olympic gold medal victor in the pentathlon and decathlon.

West Virginia University football redshirt junior safety Dravon Askew-Henry was named to the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award Watch List as announced today by the Jim Thorpe Museum and Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame.

He is WKU's first Thorpe Award Watch Lister since Cam Thomas prior to the 2014 season. The Jim Thorpe Award Banquet will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 in Oklahoma.

The victor of this year's award will have to fight off a dozen elite names. Last season he was one of top players on the Bruin defense which had a plethora of talent.

The Jim Thorpe Award victor will be announced at the Home Depot College Football Awards on December 7. Wingard ranked No. 22 in the NCAA in total tackles in 2016, averaging 9.4 per game, and ranked No. 26 in the NCAA in solo tackles, averaging 5.4 per game. Arkansas State has had 12 consecutive seasons with a winning record at home and has won 30 of its lasts 36 games at Centennial Bank Stadium.

Eight different Nittany Lions have been named to preseason watch lists. He has also earned spots on the Lott IMPACT Trophy (National Defensive of the Year on and off the field), Bednarik Award (National Defensive of the Year) and Nagurski Trophy (National Defensive of the Year) watch lists.
