UP youth arrested for terror strikes in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir police bust LeT module, arrest UP resident

The arrested terrorists were involved in a series of terror activities including looting of banks and ATMs in the Kashmir valley, said the IGP. Police further added that Sandeep later met with a terror sympathiser Shakoor from Sopore, who put him in touch with LeT operatives. He lived with two identities.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, Muneer Ahmad Khan, while expressing concern over LeT using non-Muslim criminals from outside the state to loot banks and ATMs, besides carrying other militant activities in the valley, said police has to increase vigil on workers coming to the valley from rest of the country. Most of the group's members come from the Valley, Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, police say.

During investigations, it was revealed that Mr Sharma, along with some other persons, "hatched a criminal conspiracy leading to providing shelter, ferrying of terrorists from one place to other for terror strikes and actively participating in terrorist activities".

He said the investigation into the case was underway for ascertaining the roles of his other associates in the crimes. Khan further added Sharma helped the terrorist Bashir Lashkari in taking shelter.

In a related development, the UP police has detained the sister-in-law of Sandeep.

The top cop said that Sandeep was also involved in militant attack on policemen in Achabal that left six cops, including an SHO dead. "I think 70 percent of money would probably go to LeT and 30 percent was retained by him".

Sandeep and some other associates were arrested at PP Mir Bazar in a robbery case in March this year and remained in judicial custody until bailed out, he said.

"We will investigate all non-local labourers in the Valley".

Asked how many non-locals were involved in militancy, IGP said, "It will have to be investigated". Lashkar has become the hub of criminals. "We will have to conduct in-depth verification of all of them". "In Patiala, he came in contact with one Shahid Ahmad of Kulgam and conspired to commit criminal activities".

Meerut: Praveen Sharma, a resident of Ankit Vihar area of Muzaffarnagar, is at a loss for words ever since he got to know of his brother Sandeep Sharma's arrest by J&K police for being a "hardened terrorist".
