New York Times sues FBI to get notes of Comey-Trump talks

Donald Trump confirms obstruction of justice probe claiming ‘witch hunt

The president expressed annoyance about news reports that the probe is now believed to include an examination of whether he obstructed justice by firing FBI Director James Comey, who had earlier led the Russian Federation investigation.

The US president has denied trying to influence the investigation, but has acknowledged in an interview that Russian Federation was on his mind when he dismissed Comey.

"Mueller is setting up a dragnet of obstruction, financial questions and every aspect of Trump's life and his associates lives", Gingrich wrote on Twitter, adding "very risky".

"After 7 months of investigations and committee hearings about my 'collusion with the Russians, ' nobody has been able to show any proof".

The tweet came around 9:10 a.m. Friday.

Top Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein expressed concern that Trump may try to fire both Mueller and Rosenstein, warning "he's in for a rude awakening" if he thinks he can shut down the investigation.

President Donald Trump is touting his social media following, saying he can deliver his message directly to voters instead of going through the "fake news media".

It also asks former transition officials to retain records related to five former Trump campaign associates: former campaign chairman Paul Manafort; his deputy Rick Gates; former foreign policy adviser Carter Page; retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn; and Roger Stone, a longtime Trump adviser.

It was unclear if Trump was referencing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein or Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

The White House confirmed that Mueller was among the candidates Trump interviewed to replace Comey. The transition, a nonprofit structurally separate from the Trump campaign, continues to operate with a small staff.

Trump also lashed out at the media, on a day that aides hoped would be focused on his decision to undo some of Barack Obama's detente with Cuba.

"My thinking was if i write it in such a way that I don't include anything that would trigger a classification, that'll make it easier for us to discuss within the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the government and to hold onto it in a way that makes it accessible to us", Comey told Sen.

Trump has called The Washington Post report a "phony story" and a "WITCH HUNT". "Nice", Trump wrote in his first tweet.

He followed that post up by calling the Russian Federation probe "the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!"
