Chelsea leading the race to sign powerful 22-year-old defensive midfielder

Tiemoue Bakayoko

Negotiations between Chelsea and Monaco over Tiemoue Bakayoko are still ongoing, with the two clubs trying to agree on a fee for the French global.

Bakayoko has developed in to one of the best central midfielders in Europe since joining Monaco from Rennes three years ago and he played a starring role as the French outfit won their first Ligue 1 title since 2000.

The same article states that Bakayoko will be the next big-name player to leave Monaco this summer after playmaker Bernardo Silva completed a switch to Manchester City earlier this month.

The 22-year-old has attracted interest from Manchester United this summer but he has his heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge and wants a deal done sooner rather than later.

According to French sports daily L'Equipe, the two clubs are still way off the mark when it comes to negotiations for Bakayoko as Monaco want around €45m to €50m before they agree to sell him.

Monaco's midfield enforcer is viewed as a more viable partner for fellow countryman N'Golo Kante as Conte looks to build a squad capable of launching an assault on the Champions League.

There are suggestions that Conte has been left frustrated by Chelsea's antics in the transfer market this summer and it remains to be seen whether the club step up on their pursuit of Bakayoko in the coming weeks.
