New England states join Paris climate goal alliance

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt gave his own view on the subject, saying he believes human activity plays a role in global warming, but measuring that contribution with precision is hard.

And in California, considered the leading state in tackling climate change, the state senate just passed a law to go to 50 per cent renewable electricity by 2026 and 100 per cent by 2045. As of May, the USA has kicked in a third of its $3 billion pledge to the fund, according to the Washington Post.

In a conference call Friday, members of the United Conference of Mayors also voiced their commitment to do whatever it takes to prove the US' commitment to combating climate change. And in an America that is increasingly polarized, they tend to look for cues from political leaders who are relevant to them based on those leaders' political orientations.

"All the discussions that we had through the last several weeks have been focused on one singular issue: Is Paris good or not for this country?"

"There's enough to deal with with respect to the Paris Agreement and making an informed decision about this important issue". That he made a decision to go through with it anyway, combined with White House officials' refusal to be transparent, implies that Trump's personal opinion is at least somewhat relevant, if not significantly so. The two officials peppered reporters with reasons the Paris agreement would hurt USA industry but were unable to answer environment-related questions.

Climate change, or global warming, refers to the damaging effect of gases, or emissions, released from industry, transportation, agriculture and other areas into the atmosphere.

Here's a roundup of what of Trump administration officials said.

"The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make US manufacturing non-competitive", Trump wrote in a November 2012 tweet.

Mark Jacobson, professor of civil and environmental engineering at Stanford University, noted that there are 28 USA cities that have committed to 100 per cent clean renewable energy. He's received awards as a businessman in that regard. "You are going to have to actually ask him".

Although he wouldn't speak for President Trump, Pruitt did share his own opinions on climate change. He added it is very challenging, however, to accurately measure the extent of human contribution to global warming.

She also denied breaking promises, including her vow not to call an early election.

"A friend of mine likes to say that a thermometer is neither a Republican nor a Democrat", said Webb, who traveled to Paris for the signing of the accord in 2015 to raise awareness among the public that many evangelical Christians are concerned about climate change.

Expressions of shock and regret poured in from around the world, including from Pacific islands at risk of being swallowed by rising seas, who accused Washington of "abandoning" them.

"Well, that's up to them, right?"

"It's up to the President of the United States to decide what position the United States is going to take on this matter", she told reporters on the campaign trail.

The United States is the world's second-largest carbon polluter, following China. "We're basically passing the baton to every other country to innovate and lead".

'We care about energy efficiency and we want to make sure that people know that mayors won't quit'.
