Iran will continue missile programme, says Rouhani

As President Trump has said, religious extremism and terrorism must be tackled wherever it is found.

Speaking in Jerusalem al-Quds on Monday, Trump accused Iran of backing terrorism, and pledged Washington's commitment to deter Tehran from acquiring any nuclear arms. "American [officials] were wrong about our region", Rouhani said and expressed hope that the U.S. administration would consider the interests of its own people.

On Monday, Rouhani said that Iran would continue test of its missiles anytime if there was a "technical need", and it would not seek the permission of any other country to do so.

He wished for the boost in relations between Iran and Singapore during President Rouhani's new tenure.

And for his part, President Rouhani called Trump's visit to Saudi Arabia a theatrical gathering and told the Associated Press today that relations with the US are, quote, "a curvy road".

Earlier on Wednesday, Rouhani, who has won a second term after presidential elections last Friday, responded to the claims, saying that Iran pays no heed to what enemies says about the country's missile program.

One veteran foreign policy adviser who is close to the White House told the Free Beacon that the Trump administration would not stand by as Iranian leaders mock and threaten the United States. "Instead, we are here to offer partnership - based on shared interests and values - to pursue a better future for us all", he said.

"During his recent Mideast trip, Trump urged Arab leaders to join Israel in opposing Iran, citing its alleged destabilizing activities in Syria, Iraq and Yemen".

"We will make sure to help our Saudi friends to get a good deal from our great American defense companies, the greatest anywhere in the world", Trump said in his speech. "Who can say the region will experience total stability without Iran?" he said at a news conference.

"Independent of the nuclear portfolio, and as President Rouhani starts his second presidential term, our broader policy towards Iran must be one that holds Tehran accountable for their destabilizing efforts in the region, illegal and unsafe missile technology development, and nefarious activities as the world's leading sponsor of terrorism", Menendez said.

"Of all places, the United States president uses this bastion of democracy and moderation to attack Iran shortly after its democratic election", Zarif wrote on Twitter. We must not forget that, like in many countries, Iranian people vote according to economic conditions and expectations. But he understands that Iran's best hope rests on reintegration into the region and the world and the best - if not only - way to achieve that aim is to respect worldwide law and norms.

French carmakers PSA PEUP.PA and Renault RENA.PA are taking advantage of their lack of USA operations by piling into a resurgent Iranian market that is still off-limits to rivals fearful that Trump's administration will impose sanctions. Our missiles are for peace and for defence.

"We are still waiting for new United States administration to be established in terms of positions, agenda and thoughts, so we can have a precise judgment", Rouhani said while commenting about possible talks between Tehran and Washington under the Trump administration.
