In total, the 50 Ipswich teams registered have raised nearly half of their $90,000 with donations now sitting at $37,610.

Local cancer survivors and their caregivers will take the celebratory first lap at the annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Murrieta May 20 and 21 at Murrieta Mesa High School.

"The largest hope is the community coming out so that they can let the people know there is hope", one event organizer said.

This year's survivor's lap is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be followed by the caregiver's lap. Numerous teams participate in fundraising in the months leading up to the event.

Prince George hosts the biggest Relay for Life event in B.C., which raised $500,000 last weekend.

The opening Survivors' Lap is always a highlight, and we are hoping that as many survivors as possible join us for the start of Relay for Life Donegal on May 27 at 5pm.

BEFORE burning calories walking and running all night at Relay for Life, Ipswich team Aussies Against Cancer indulged in a few sweet treats for a good cause.

Funds raised help the American Cancer Society provide free information and support for people facing the disease today, and fund cancer research that will help protect future generations.

The 2017 Relay for Life will run 5-11 p.m. Thanks in part to our progress, almost 14.5 million Americans who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will celebrate more birthdays this year.
